Alagna, together with Gressoney and Champoluc form the monterosa ski area; 3 valleys connected by a modern lift system.
The two highest points are the Bettaforca and Salati passes. Many off-piste descents can easily be reached from these passes.
The descents are varied and offer both moderate to very challenging terrain. Since spring of 2007 the historic Pta. Indren cableway has been closed after almost 40 years of service – this age induced closure makes many of the famous off-piste runs more difficult to reach.
About 1 hour skin puts the skier in a position to be able to ski 1500-2000m vertical. The walk, besides being good exercise and a lot of fun means that the area is less skied and therefore offers more untracked snow. So don’t be afraid, balma, canalino del aquila, salsa, malfatta and all the other famous runs are waiting for you with less crowds and more untracked snow than before….
